Tom’s relentless research and documentation tells how Michigan State’s Head football coach, Duffy Daugherty, began the process of the integration of Black athletes into college football in the late 1950’s through 1970 and beyond.

Duffy's Coaching Legacy

Duffy’s coaching tree spread to several universities to include, Notre Dame, UNC, Maryland, Auburn, University of Houston, Wake Forest, South Carolina, ASU, UCLA, CU, SMU and Tennessee. His legacy became the catalyst for the widespread recruitment of Black athletes and the integration of Black athletes into college football. His legacy paved the way for all other college sports to follow.
